SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady

Just another GR refugee.  Other than that, I had a stroke in 2004, and read almost anything I can get my hands on, though I have a particular weakness for history, mystery, and historical fiction.

Earworms: 2004

It is 2004.

Janet Jackson has a notorious "costume malfunction" while performing in the Superbowl halftime show.  (Some parents complain more about the deluge of Viagra ads.)  Britney Spears marries a childhood friend in Vegas, and then annuls it 55 hours later.  Later in the year she marries Kevin Federline.  Beyonce wins five Grammy awards.  Starship's We Built This City "wins" the title of Worst Song Ever in Blender magazine.  Fantasia wins season 3 of American Idol, defeating Diana DeGarmo (and her "degenerate degarments").  Ashlee Simpson is accused of lip synching on Saturday Night Live.  The Rock in Rio concert is actually held in Lisbon, and headlined by Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Britney Spears, and Sting.  Lollapalooza is cancelled due to "poor ticket sales."  Simon & Garfunkel perform a free show for 600,000 at the Colosseum in Rome.  Van Halen re-hires Sammy Hagar.  Billy Joel marries food critic Katie Lee (alias the wooden host of the first season of Top Chef).  Phish break up.  Death of Ray Charles.

I have a stroke.
