Just another GR refugee. Other than that, I had a stroke in 2004, and read almost anything I can get my hands on, though I have a particular weakness for history, mystery, and historical fiction.
J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
I love this book, so it was the obvious choice, and the first one that popped into my head. It's only the ruling grand champion of "high fantasy," and the pattern for so many novels that followed.
It also helped kept me sane (with the music of The Beatles) for a couple of years in my adolescence, so yeah, for that too.
